Day 1: Breaking News from COP17

By Tierney Smith
RTCC in Durban

Welcome to a hot and humid Durban. Last night the heavens opened and biblical rains were unleashed on Durban, with roads turned into streams. Certainly our taxi driver was not impressed – nor were we with his leaking roof!

We’ll bring you all the latest news and analysis from COP17 throughout the next fortnight.

Today I’ll be outside the conference centre covering the #occupycop17 protests, and meeting some local activists to find out what Africa can gain from these talks. Follow me @rtcc_tierney.

@rtcc_john will be in the main plenary centre for the opening ceremony, covering the speeches of South African President Jacob Zuma and UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres.

And follow @rtcc_edk for all the latest from the UNFCCC climate change TV studio – later today we will be speaking to His Holiness Shri Shri 1008 Soham Baba, Peter Holmgren Director Environment, Climate Change and Bioenergy from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, and also IPCC chief Rajendra Pachauri.
