John Ashton: climate change and political struggle

Former UK climate chief John Ashton on why the challenges posed by global warming can only be solved by pulling together

“Climate change is an issue we can only confront if we can somehow find a way to define ourselves according to what binds us, rather than according to what divides must.

“Of course we all have different backgrounds, cultures and affiliations, and it’s those backgrounds that give us the richness of our lives in many ways, but if we just look to those differences then we don’t see what we have in common.

“And the trouble with climate change is that that is no longer a choice, because the climate is something we all have in common whether we like it or not.”
