COP18: Poverty reduction and environmental agenda go hand in hand

COP18 (01/12/2012) – Bindu N. Lohani, Vice President of Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development at the Asian Development Bank, describes the Asian Development Bank’s work to achieve its goal of an Asia free of poverty, in terms of inclusive growth, green growth and regional co-operation.

He details the yearly investment into renewable energies, and describes how these projects can help improve the quality of life for poor Asian communities, showing how this investment benefits both poverty reduction and the environmental agenda.

He says that climate change is on the agenda for everybody, and explains why following the UN negotiations helps him to incorporate the Asian Development Bank’s activities into global climate change policy. At COP18, he is following negotiations on the Kyoto Protocol’s second commitment period; the 2015 global agreement; and the Green Climate Fund.
