CBD COP11: Climate change threatens Tuareg people

Rio Conventions Pavilion TV, CBD COP11 (12/10/2012) – Fortune Sarah Lili, IMUHAGH, discusses the prevailing mood at COP11 and discusses her experiences as one of the Tuareg people.

Lili explains that the Tuareg people hold deep concerns regarding land rights and biodiversity.

Lili discusses in particular her concern about the effects of climate change in the Saharan region, where the drought is becoming increasingly severe, dramatically reducing plant and animal life. She adds that this is causing deeps debate over food sovereignty.

Lili also argues that space traditionally used by Nomadic peoples such as her own needs more legal protection.
