CBD COP11: Trees are the matrix that binds biodiversity together

Ramni H. Jamnadass, World Agroforestry Centre interview: Rio Conventions Pavilion, CBD COP11, 11/10/2012 – Ramni H. Jamnadass global project research leader, with the World Agroforestry Centre, says trees are “the matrix that binds all biodiversity together” but that some trees are afforded less protection than others.

She says that while efforts to help protected forests are well funded, work to support trees on agricultural lands is lagging behind. Jamnadass suggests that making people aware of the wider benefits of trees, for food and medicines for example, could help raise much-needed finance.
