Rio+20 (15/06/2012) – Carole Saint-Laurent, Global Forest and Climate Change Programme at the IUCN talks about the importance of restoration – one of the seven policy tracks being examined at Rio+20. She hopes those parties negotiating agreements and re-negotiating the text at the conference will pay more attention to those actions already happening around the world and what people are already prepared to do when it comes to restoration.

An example of restoration is landscapes where forests have been and where they could be forests and trees again, and taking that landscape and restoring not only so that it is covered in forestry but so that local people can get the benefits they need from it – whether that be a secure supply of fresh water, forestry goods or services or the income from forestry products.
