COP20: Rachel Kyte, World Bank

COP20 (11/12/14) – Rachel Kyte talks about the sense of positivity and cooperation that see has felt at this year’s COP. Commenting on what she has observed in the negotiations, she says there has been a shift in the talks, with higher ambition now the norm. She also discusses the significance of the potential long-term goal on reaching net-zero emissions by around 2050. She stresses how important this could be for long term planning and talks about how it will shape the thinking of the world bank. She goes on to describe her work on carbon pricing, and explores the issue of whether more progress is occurring outside of the UNFCCC than inside. On this topic she emphasises the need for the UNFCCC to engage the business world and send clear signals on the world’s future climate action.
