COP19: Stefan Raubenheimer on climate change modelling techniques

COP19 (20/11/13) – Stefan Raubenheimer, Director, Migration Action Plans & Scenarios (MAPS) says their models were are used to not only look at how governments can reduce greenhouse gases, but also the consequences of climate change on economic and social issues.

MAPS was born from an idea used in South Africa in 2005. Before Copenhagen most developing countries had little idea what mitigation potential they had because the Kyoto protocol laid climate progress squarely on the shoulders of developed countries to act first.

The most energetic response to try the scenarios and models came from Latin America who wanted to do a version of the studies undertaken in South Africa.
