COP19: Joseph ole Simel on why indigenous peoples should be included in climate change discussions

COP19 (20/11/13) – Joseph ole Simel, Mainyoito Pastoralist Integrated Development Organization talks about why climate change discussions must involve indigenous peoples.

He says decisions that are made without the involvement of indigenous peoples will have a negative impact on their livelihoods.

He says the Mainyoito Pastoralist Integrated Development Organization works with indigenous peoples across Latin America, Asian and Africa in order to represent their voices at the talks and highlight the challenges they face.

He says whatever solutions are proposed must consider the views of the indigenous peoples who will be affected on the ground.

For example, he says, the Green Climate Fund needs to develop a structure for indigenous peoples.
