Climate change set to boost food security risks

Gerald C Nelson – International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI)

Gerald Nelson presents the findings of a report on food security and climate change commissioned by the UN.

“A key question for our research was whether the activities you would undertake would harm food security, and they answer is there are many opportunities for synergies – activities where you can both capture Co2 and increase good security,” he said.

“Crops responded to having more carbon in the soil – you get higher yields. So that’s a win win, it takes carbon out of the atmosphere, and crops do better.”
