COP18: Economic benefits of restoring forests

COP18 (06/12/12) – Bianca Jagger, Founder and Chair of the Bianca Jagger Human Rights Foundation talks about their campaign getting countries to pledged to restore their forests.

She talks about an IUCN study that showed that protecting 150 million hectares of forest could bring benefits worth around $80 billion a year. She says this should appeal to many governments.

She says that with the two million hectares of forest restoration pledged in Doha, the pledges for the first year from governments around the world is now 20 million – more than they thought would be possible.
