Rio+20: Women bring holistic approach to sustainable development

Rio+20 (21/06/2012) – Honourable Fatou Ndeye Gaye, Minister for Forestry and Environment, Republic of Gambia talks to Pavilion TV about the role of women in providing a holistic approach to the negotiations.

She says sustainable development starts from the home and in the houses it is the women and the children who do the chores and the women in charge and responsible. She says when these women come to the negotiations they come with what they know on the ground and can inform the top what is happening at this level.

Women’s issues are not only women’s issues, she says, but family issues – meaning men, women and children, as well as the surrounding area and resources.
