COP20: Christina Gestrin, Nordic Council

COP20 (10/12/14) – Christina Gestrin of the Nordic Council talks about the progress Nordic countries have made in transitioning to renewable energy and increasing energy efficiency. Nordic states have widely adopted renewables. A third of all energy consumed in the countries is now from renewable sources, with this set to steadily increase. She comments on the speed of this transition and explores some of the reasons why it occurred, also emphasising the importance of energy efficiency. She expands on the combination of civil society pressure and political will that has allowed the Nordic states to become world leaders in tackling climate change and discusses how other countries can learn from their experience.
