How is Climate Home News structured?
Climate Home News is a UK-registered company with one shareholder – its founder, James Ramsey. We do not make a profit and do not pay dividends. We are committed to providing our content free of charge and have no current plans to put it behind a paywall.
Where does Climate Home News get money from?
Each year, we need approximately £330,000/$430,000 to cover core costs and maintain our current level of work. As of February 2025, the largest contributor of income is grant support from philanthropic foundations, which is supplemented by corporate partnerships and sponsorships, as well as contributions from our founder.
Such funding isn’t always reliable or sustainable, however, so we are always looking to generate more income to help us cover the essential costs of operating. This is why we host ads on our website, and why we are seeking to expand our partners and sponsors. We are also planning a membership scheme so that readers can contribute financially to support our work.
What is Partner Content and Sponsored Articles?
From time to time, you may see some articles with a blue banner carrying the phrase “Partner Content.” Such articles are clearly labelled this way to highlight that they are different from our usual editorial coverage and investigations. These Sponsored Articles are written in collaboration with our partners who pay to have relevant content on our site, promoting their work and sharing their expert insight on the topic whilst supporting us financially.
What ads feature on the Climate Home News website?
Advertising is a recent addition to the website and is intended to help us increase and diversify our income, whilst sharing engaging and relevant opportunities to you, our readers. Similar to many publishers, we rely heavily on GoogleAds to generate the ads featured on our site. Whilst this ensures that ads are unique to each individual visitor, it may mean that from time to time visitors may be served certain ads that are not entirely appropriate or in-line with our values and mission. If you do encounter an advert on our site that you feel shouldn’t be featured, please let us know, and we will look at adding the brand/organisation to our blocklist so that they do not feature again in the future. Your understanding and support would be greatly appreciated.
How does Climate Home News spend its money?
All of the money we receive is invested back into producing and promoting our award-winning reporting, analysis and investigations. Overwhelmingly, our biggest expense each year is the salaries for our small global team. We are a fully remote team with no physical office and minimal overheads.
