How is Climate Home News structured?
Climate Home News is a UK-registered company with one shareholder – its founder, James Ramsey. We do not make a profit and do not pay dividends. We are committed to providing our content free of charge and have no current plans to put it behind a paywall.
Where does Climate Home News get money from?
Each year, we need approximately £330,000/$430,000 to cover core costs and maintain our current level of work. As of February 2025, the largest contributor of income is grant support from philanthropic foundations, which is supplemented by corporate partnerships and sponsorships, as well as contributions from our founder.
Such funding isn’t always reliable or sustainable, however, so we are always looking to generate more income to help us cover the essential costs of operating. This is why we host ads on our website, and why we are seeking to expand our partners and sponsors. We are also planning a membership scheme so that readers can contribute financially to support our work.
What ads feature on the Climate Home News website and newsletter?
Advertising is a new feature and is intended to help us increase and diversify our income, whilst sharing engaging and relevant opportunities to you, our readers. Our ads are 100% booked and we do not rely on GoogleAds to generate what readers see. This ensures that only the most relevant content features on our site and we have the ability to feature and promote organisations with similar values to our own.
How does Climate Home News spend its money?
All of the money we receive is invested back into producing and promoting our award-winning reporting, analysis and investigations. Overwhelmingly, our biggest expense each year is the salaries for our small global team. We are a fully remote team with no physical office and minimal overheads.
