333rd consecutive month with temperature above 20th Century average

November marked the 333rd consecutive month where global temperatures were above the 20th century average, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

NOAA’s monthly State of the Planet report found November 2012 to be the fifth warmest November since records began 1880. It is also the 36th consecutive November that temperatures were above average.

The average land surface temperature was sixth warmest on record for November at 1.13°C above average and the ocean surface temperature was also the sixth warmest at 0.5°C above average.

Most areas of the world experienced higher-than-average temperatures, including Russia, Australia, central and western US, northern Africa and most of Europe. Central Asia, Alaska, western and central Canada and eastern US were notably cooler than average.
