COP19: Dadi Zhiou on why China is doing its best to reduce energy consumption

COP19 (18/11/13) – Dadi Zhiou, Adviser to the Chinese Delegation on Energy talks about why China is doing its best to reduce its energy consumption.

He admits the pressure on China is high and the challenge that remains for the country is over how to achieve rapid economic growth and also keep its energy consumption and emissions down.

He says China is developing its solar and wind energy technology but the cost and reliability of renewable energy means coal is still being used.

He says the country intends to develop clean and more efficient coal technology in addition to developing their use of nuclear power, hydropower and natural gas.

He adds China is doing its best to develop alternative energy resources to replace coal.
