COP19: Richard Munang on the adaptation gap

COP19 (19/11/13) – Richard Munang, United Nations Environment Programme talks about the adaptation gap.

He speaks about the increasing need for African cities to adapt to climate change.

The adaptation gap needs to close and developed nations need to provide financing. Every year until 2020 there needs to be a 10% increase in finances for the African continent for adaptation. If adaptation funding is not provided Africa will suffer from the effects of sea level rises and crop failure. This in turn can lead to wide spread poverty and hunger as well as high levels of malnutrition.
