COP19: Philippe Joubert on sustainable energy for all

COP19 (18/11/13) – Three of the world’s largest energy and sustainability networks have joined forces within the Global Electricity Initiative (GEI) to support electrical utilities’ efforts to tackle climate change and improve energy access.

Executive Chair Philippe Joubert expresses doubts on the UN’s Sustainable Energy For All Initiative saying utilities are finding it difficult to meet the goals due to a lack of eligible financing and local constraints.

Joubert says it is a “total illusion” for people to think renewables will make up a larger share of the energy mix than it already does. Fossil fuels will continue to be the main energy for generating electricity he says and with that “all our dreams” of curbing emissions will not happen unless this fact is changed.
