COP19: Liu Yanhua on Chinese perception of climate change

COP19 (19/11/13) – Liu Yanhua, Counsellor of the State Council of PRC advises the Chinese government on the public’s perception and views on climate change.

People in China a worried about environmental issues particularly air pollution. The health effects of air pollution are making the Chinese people unhappy with current levels of emissions.

Yanhua talks about the research they have done regarding this. Chinese people he says are aware of the costs of creating change and he suggests that people and companies should take a more proactive role in helping the environmental recover.

He also talks about Chinese consumption levels and economic growth and says that it could be happening to the detriment of the environment. China has a few key aims: To change the energy structure, production structure, develop a new image for industry that is sustainable and to reassess consumption levels.
