COP19: Mary-Ann Celis on why children need climate change education

COP19 (15/11/2013) – Mary-Ann Celis, Earth Child Intitute, talks about providing children and young people with education on climate change.

She talks about how her family were hit by Typhoon Haiyan and why we need to implement a new climate change regime with the help of children and young people.

She says the Earth Child Institute focusses on children to ensure that their rights are acknowledged in emerging environmental policies. She says that education is an essential component in sustainable development.

She goes on to say that the Earth Child Institute works on hygiene education in six favelas in Brazil and across the Amazon because water is a huge issue surrounding climate change.

She concludes that education is essential as there is not enough education about climate change at the moment.
