COP19: Zhiquan Zeng on China’s role in the talks

COP19 (13/11/13) Zhiquan Zeng a youth delegate for the National Centre for Climate Change of China speaks of her country’s role within the UNFCCC talks.

She speaks of the current profile of Climate Change in China saying that although pollution and other environmental factors are not satisfactory, young people are starting to ask questions and learn more about Climate Change.

She feels that the Chinese government feels the pressure that is being placed on them to act within the UNFCCC but they are not paying enough attention.

On the youth presence at COP19 , she says their engagement is essential and that they are the most powerful group of civil society present at the talks. She speaks of the unique position of youth to engage their parents thus creating a wider societal change – a huge change.
