COP18: Australia committed to Kyoto Protocol, says Minister

COP18 (03/12/12) – Mark Dreyfus, Parliamentary Secretary for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency in Australia talks about the work taking place within Australia on climate change.

He says the country has been through a difficult period introducing the carbon price, and now they have this settled they have been able to move to other issues including the negotiations to link Australia’s carbon trading scheme with the EU ETS and also their announcement of a second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol.

He says that Australia has made it clear there would be opportunities for the country to raise their pledge under Kyoto, which many have labelled as too small, and that the announced target is a 22% reduction on business-as-usual projections.
