COP18: Belgium’s ambitious carbon target is achievable, says minister

COP18 (05/12/12) – Philippe Henry, Minister of Environment, Land-Use Planning and Mobility, Belgium talks about the country’s target to reduce emissions by 30% by 2020 and 80-95% by 2050.

He says they have developed plans of action for each sector and that they have developed scenarios and feel that the targets are achievable. He says that while they may be ambitious, they are necessary to help tackle climate change.

He says industry has supported the move because for them it means efficiency and more cost savings. He said the most difficult area will be transport but there are options including foot and bike, transporting goods by train or boat or consuming food and products from local sources.
