COP18: Under-18s should be permitted into the UN climate talks

COP18 (30/11/12) – Nathan and Katherine from Earth in Brackets talk about the news that under 18s would not be permitted entry into the negotiations. They say the youth delegations only found out about this rule a few weeks before the conference.

They say it goes against the precedent for the UNFCCC negotiations but have been told it is a UN-wide rule.

They say there is less of a youth presence in Doha than at last year’s conference in Durban and that this means there is less energy at the talks. They say the negotiations have lost their moral compass as it is youth’s job to look past the ‘politically feasible’ and the ‘politically possible’ to what actually needs to be done.
