COP18: Regional cooperation vital for climate change adaptation

COP18 (27/11/12) – Sanjay Vashist, Director of Climate Action Network South Asia talks about the importance of regional cooperation on climate change, particularly for regions that are vulnerable to its effects.

He says that CAN South Asia are working on many issues at COP18, including adaptation and loss and damage, low-carbon development and ambition and that their main message is that the survival of their countries is threatened.

He talks about adaptation as a priority and says that while countries in the region are already making efforts to adapt with their own limited resources, they need financial aid and the technological solutions from the developed world.

He says regional policies are important because countries across South Asia share many resources, including energy and water and also because many of the countries in the area are dealing with similar impacts to climate change.
