COP18: G77 calls for countries to keep their commitments

COP18 (27/11/2012) – Larbi Djacta, Minister Counselor of the Permanent Mission of Algeria to the United Nations, says that Algeria has no national agenda at COP18, as it is encapsulated within the agenda of the G77. It wants to see discussions on how to fix the problems of climate change, and for all countries to go further to maintain all of their commitments within the Convention.

He emphasises the principle of Common but Differentiated Responsibilites, with countries compelled to take action based on their respective capacities, as a key part of the Convention.

He concludes by expressing his optimism for the conference, saying that there is no point in coming to these conferences if you are not optimistic.
