COP18: Young environmentalists call on delegates to ‘fill the fund’

COP18 (26/11/12) – Caroline Jonsson from the Sustainable Markets Foundation comes to the Climate Change Studio to talk about a new project she is undertaking creating a children’s book on climate finance. The book ‘Fill the Fund’ will see a hero travel across the world and find easy and fun ways to fill the Green Climate Fund.

Jonsson talks about the importance of breaking climate finance down into a language that everyone can understand and hopes the book could be given to anyone from a top negotiator to a five-year-old child.

She says that it is easy for politicians to ignore climate finance in the current economic climate because citizens do not understand it and so do not see it as a priority, and also do not see the possibilities that green investment has to offer.

Jonsson says that the issue now is how to fill the Green Climate Fund and warns that currently no one knows how much should be from public funds, private funds, taxes etc. She says what is important in Doha is for negotiators to talk about what is the easiest way to fill the fund and how much different countries should contribute to it.
