CBD COP11: Ecosystem restoration and conservation should go hand in hand

James Aronson, CNRS interview: Rio Conventions Pavilion, CBD COP11, 17/10/2012 – James Aronson, a researcher at the Centre d’Ecologie Fonctionnelle and Evolutive/Le Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) discusses ecosystem restoration.

Calling it the “little sister of conservation”, Aronson says too many people are unaware that it is possible to repair damaged and degraded ecosystems. He says that while some people are concerned that we have already “meddled” enough with the planet, we have little choice but to attempt to repair the damage we have already done.

Restoration alone will not be enough however he says, instead prescribing a combination of restoration, conservation and sustainable resource use.
