CBD COP11: Amnesty CEO’s message to Indian PM

Rio Conventions Pavilion TV, CBD COP11 (15/10/2012) – G. Ananthapadmanabhan, Chief Executive of Amnesty International, gives his message to Manmohan Singh, the Prime Minister of India.

Ananthapadmanabhan is critical of Singh for ignoring rights in the development process, even when he talks about ‘inclusive’ growth. Ananthapadmanabhan asserts that only if people have their rights adequately protected can people participate in development.

Ananthapadmanabhan argues that the idea that India can grow and then think about rights is ludicrous. He maintains that rights must be the starting point of development, rather than just being a late addition.
