CBD COP11: Better balance needed for sustainable and profitable fisheries

Nammalwar Rajan, Project Leader, INCOIS calls on the government to consider the economic hardships facing many Indian fisherman adding that it must find a better balance between protecting biodiversity and enabling the exploitation of the sea’s natural resources.

He says that the rules for fisherman must be relaxed while ensuring that the development that it promotes is sustainable.
