CBD COP11: The link between carbon and biodiversity

Alexander Buck, executive director, IUFRO interview: Rio Conventions Pavilion, CBD COP11, 11/10/2012 – Alexander Buck, executive director, International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) says the complex nature of all forestry problems, not least deforestation, means a coordinated effort is required to tackle them.

He says the link between carbon and biodiversity is a crucial relationship given the contribution that tropical forests, in particular, make to land-based carbon stores. This ecosystem is rich in biodiversity meaning their protection offers a double boost to the environment.
