CBD COP11: Include indigenous communities in biodiversity policy

CBD COP11 (8/10/2012) – Martha Ntoipo, a Tanzanian affiliate of the Indigenous Information Network, describes the impact of biodiversity loss in Tanzania and explains the importance of the inclusion of rural indigenous communities in international biodiversity policy.

Ntoipo notes how biodiversity lost through increasingly intensive agricultural methods in Tanzania has led to desertification.

Ntoipo closes by urging parties to ratify the Nagoya protocol, emphasising the benefit of protecting biodiversity for all people, of both rural and urban communities.
