Rio+20: Better research needed into renewable energy for Africa

Rio+20 (21/06/2012) –Fatou Ndey Gaye, Environment Minster for Gambia says that there needs to be proper studies and research in place which will aid countries in Africa to make the right choices about energy sources.

She says from her own experiences in Gambia, solar has been tried, but with the expensive nature of the technology, the policies have not worked for the country. She also says while there is potential for wind, this is also not being picked up.

She says the countries need to understand better what technologies will work best for them and say that until this research is conducted she can not say what needs to happen in the future.
