Rio+20: Benefits of co-managing wildlife in Bangladesh

Rio+20 (21/06/2012) – Reema Islam and Anwar Kamal, UNDP Equator Prize Winners, Chunto Wildlife Sanctuary, Bangladesh talk about their project in Bangledesh on co-management.

The project links up local communities who are living around forests and wetlands with the government so that they can work together to protect the environment and wildlife. It has been running since 2005 and last year was adopted as an official government policy.

Kamal explains how the project provides those living in the communities, who would once be dependant on extracting natural resources from the wildlife sanctuary and surrounding areas with new forms of income.
