Rio+20: Conservation at the local level in Nigeria

Rio+20 (17/06/2012) – Okezie Kelechi, Executive Director, Neighbourhood Environment Watch Foundation talks about the work his NGO does in working on conservation and forest projects in Nigeria. He says that human factors impact the environment and land is being degraded and forests destroyed for agriculture and building projects – leaving many regions threatened by desertification.

He says the group are in Rio to put pressure on the international policy makers to begin work to promote sustainability and make sure that economic growth no longer comes at the expense of the environment

He believes information and knowledge will be key in changing the way people use land.
