Rio+20 (16/06/2012) –Sefanaia Nawadra, Director of Environmental Monitoring & Governance, Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme explains the importance of ocean protection for small island nations such as Samoa.

He says he wants to make sure ocean issues are on the agenda at Rio+20 and that the implications of taking responsibility over governance of the Pacific Ocean are considered and ocean issues are considered in the green economy conversations.

He stresses that action on oceans must be taken at global level, as many of the problems facing oceans like the Pacific come from outside the region.
