Rio+20: If we do not value nature, we do not protect it

Rio+20 (14/06/2012) – John Soussan, Professor at the Oslo Consortium, explains how sustainable development is about considering the whole picture and valuing all aspects and services of our natural environment.

Traditionally he says we have only valued the part of resources which we can sell on the market and for example with forests have ignored the values they have in sequestering carbon, regulating water and the use of the land, plants and wildlife by local communities.

If we do not value it then we do not protect it, says Soussan.
