Paul Allen, Winston Churchill Memorial Trust

Paul has come to COP21 to share research from the Centre of Alternative Technology (CAT) with delegates and NGOs inside and outside the conference. He explains that in order to keep global temperatures below 2 degrees industrialised countries have to decarbonise drastically. CAT’s report Whose Getting Ready for Zero pulls together 100 scenarios from countries such as Ethiopia, America, Australia and Morocco showing how rapid decarbonisation is possible using current technology. Paul tells Climate Home that the barriers to decarbonisation are political and cultural not technological. Finally, Paul highlights the need to convert INDCs into practical plans that also increase ambition in the coming years.
