Eva Baños de Guisasola, CCRE CEMR

Eva tells Climate Home that CEMR’s interest in COP21 is to amplify the voice of regional and local governments and show how these subnationals can make a difference in tackling climate change. CEMR is advocating for closer collaborations wih the member state level. Eva gives examples of two recent CEMR projects; the Covenant of Mayors project is a voluntary initiative where local governments can sign up to produce sustainable energy action plans that are in accordance with 2020 targets. Currently 6000 municipalities have signed up. Last year CEMR launched their Mayors Adapt project where cities develop adaptation plans and now the two projects have combined with a horizon of 2030. It is in initiatives such as these that cities can make a difference.
