Prof. Lena Dominelli, IASSW

Prof. Dominelli is at COP21 to talk about the contributions social work makes in combating climate change. Social workers do a lot of on the ground community engagement with those vulnerable to climate impacts such as flooding, heat spells, cold snaps and fuel poverty. The IASSW is part of a network working in 74 countries implementing climate change projects such as solar powered cooking stoves and helping communities become energy independent using renewables. Social workers identify the needs of vulnerable people and help them get the corresponding resources. Prof. Dominelli would like to see social workers represented in the IPCC as a discipline and for the value of social workers to be recognised in the negotiations.
