David Hawkins, NRDC

David talks about the importance of CCS as a technology and its role in closing the gap between climate commitments and what we need to do to protect the climate. He laments that current policies are not strong enough to drive CCS and explains in order to make it economical and drive costs down governments need to make big investments. In order to counteract the short tem vision of governments David says we need to appeal to political leaders that part of their job is protecting the people they represent and count on public impatience at the failure of politicians in looking after their long term well being. Finally, David tells us about 2 commercial scale CCS projects in America at coal fired power plants that will both be operational in two years.
