Christian tells Climate Home about Energynest’s energy storage project. He explains that energy storage enables a more efficient integration of renewables as it allows harvesting of surplus energy produced during times of low demand. If energy storage can be utilised for renewables it will reduce reliance on conventional power plants used as strategic reserves. Energy storage can be used to close the loop on energy intensive industries such as cement, metal and paper. Excess heat produced from these industries can be stored to use as heat when needed or used to generate electricity. Finally, Christian explains that their energy storage project uses simple components, widely available materials such as cement and steel and can be easily built. Alongside low costs and a long cycle, the technology is suitable and affordable for developing nations.
