COP20 (06/12/14) – Schalatek explains that the Green Climate Fund (GCF) is the first multilateral fund to have a mandate for a gender sensitive approach. This is an important constituent element differentiating the GCF from other existing climate funds. She believes this is a wonderful opportunity for the fund to be pioneering, and explains the importance of a commitment to develop gender policy and action plans which will be reviewed by the board of the GCF in March 2015. She then highlights the importance of recognising the integration of gender considerations already occurring in elements of the fund. Examples include energy access in mitigation projects, and food security adaptation projects.
